Fall 2004 Newsletter
Dear Rocky Mountain Academy Members:
The 40th Annual Educational Conference will be held January 21-22, 2005
at the Hilton Denver Tech South. Information and registration is available
on the RMAOEM website. If you have suggestions for sponsors or exhibitors,
forward them to Sara Hutchison of Hughes & Stuart at sara@hughesstuart.com.
If you have suggestions for “mailing” (ideally e-mail) lists
of groups who might have interest in the conference, forward them to
Sara Hutchison of Hughes & Stuart at sara@hughesstuart.com.
We continue to improve and update the website. We encourage all members
and interested parties to visit the website at www.rmaoem.org and
submit feedback. If you have not already registered an email address
with us, please do so. We plan to forward the newsletter to you electronically
in the future where possible.
New board members and officers will be elected at the annual general
membership meeting to be held January 21, 2005. The RMAOEM Board wishes
to solicit nominees for the positions of Vice-President and one non-Colorado
general Board member. Please contact me if you are interested.
The Officers and Board have reviewed and revised the RMAOEM Constitution
and Bylaws, as the last revision was 1991. Amendments to the current
Bylaws require two-thirds written vote of the members having the right
to vote. We will notify you about this process in the near future.
Specifically for Colorado, RMAOEM will provide input to the Colorado
Medical Society Workers’ Compensation Advisory Committee on an
important issue. Colorado is the only state left that uses the now long
out of print AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Third
Edition (Revised) for determination of impairment in state workers’ comp
cases. A complicating issue is that in Colorado the particular edition
of the AMA Guides that is used must be specified by the legislature in
changes to the state Workers’ Compensation Act. John Hughes, M.D.
will present the RMAOEM resolution that Colorado adopts the AMA Guides
to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 5th Edition, or if possible,
the most current edition, to the Colorado Medical Society, toward a goal
of attaining political support for the necessary legislation.
Sincerely,
Darrel K. Quick, M.D., M.P.H., FACOEM
